New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Centre and Ladakh UT administration on a plea filed by Geetanjali Angmo, the wife of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging the decision to detain her in Jodhpur's Central Jail under the National Security Act (NSA) and seeking her immediate release.
A bench of Justices Arvind Kumar and NV Anjaria, however, refused to pass any order to provide information to Sonam Wangchuk's wife about the reasons for her detention. The next hearing in the matter will be on October 14.
Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act on September 26, two days after protests broke out over the demand for statehood for Ladakh and inclusion in the 6th Schedule. Four people were killed and 90 injured in the violence during the protests in the Union Territory. Wangchuk is lodged in Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan.
