Hoshiarpur/Mohali: A crucial meeting of the office-bearers and members of the Seva Kendra Employees Union Punjab was held, attended notably by Punjab AITUC General Secretary Mr. Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal and Vice-President Mr. Vinod Chug. The meeting was presided over by the Union's State President, Baljinder Singh Majha, along with other senior office-bearers. During the meeting, employees expressed deep concern over the state government and Cabinet Minister Mr. Aman Arora backtracking on previously reached agreements. Union leaders stated that following a strike held from May 26 to June 9, 2026, employees had resumed duty on June 10 based solely on the Minister's assurances. It had been agreed that all employees would be retained in service without hindrance and that salary payments would be released after rectifying the 'absent' status marked during the strike period.
However, Union leaders alleged that administrative officials and the Minister's staff are no longer even answering phone calls. The records regarding employee absences have not yet been corrected, and the government is reneging on its promises. In this meeting, the Union reiterated its key demands, which include bringing Seva Kendra employees directly under the department instead of a private company, implementing minimum wage grades with appropriate salary hikes, granting benefits for Sundays and other public holidays, paying overtime or TA/DA for extra duty, and immediately releasing the pending salaries of security guards. A strong demand was also raised to put an end to disputes involving the employees.
Finally, the Union made it clear that if the government does not promptly fulfill these legitimate and lawful demands, an intense agitation—exercising trade union rights—will be launched again starting July 10, 2026, and the Punjab Government will bear full responsibility for the consequences.
