Mumbai:- The Sensex and Nifty declined during early trading on Thursday, mainly due to losses in power and metal stocks amid widespread selling across Asian markets. In addition, elevated crude oil prices and a rise in US bond yields negatively affected investor sentiment.

During early trading, the 30-share BSE Sensex fell 678.90 points, or 0.92 per cent, to 73,030.79. Meanwhile, the 50-share NSE Nifty dropped 250.90 points, or 1.10 per cent, to 22,568.10.

Among the Sensex constituents, Power Grid, Bharat Electronics Limited, Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Asian Paints, Adani Ports, NTPC, Trent, Bajaj Finserv, IndiGo and Hindustan Unilever were among the biggest losers. Shares of Eternal, the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, rose by more than two per cent. On Wednesday, the company announced that it had recorded a consolidated net profit of Rs 125 crore for the July-September quarter.

On the other hand, shares of Bharti Airtel, Infosys and HCL Technologies were trading with gains. Asian markets witnessed a sharp decline, with South Korea’s KOSPI trading 3.12 per cent lower.
