Bhawanigarh/Sangrur, July 17:- To ensure strict compliance with road safety rules in District Sangrur, a special checking campaign was conducted on the Bhawanigarh–Patiala road under the leadership of Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Manjit Kaur, PCS. During this drive, strict action was taken against overloaded vehicles, and more than a dozen vehicles were challaned.
Additionally, the Regional Transport Officer visited various school campuses and thoroughly inspected school buses. During the checking, the mandatory safety standards under the 'Safe School Vahan Policy'—including required vehicle documents, fitness certificates, first-aid boxes, fire extinguishers, speed governors, CCTV cameras, and GPS—were examined.
Regional Transport Officer Manjit Kaur issued strict instructions to school administrators, stating that any compromise regarding the safety of children will not be tolerated. She said that the 'Safe School Vahan Policy' is being implemented in full in District Sangrur, and schools that do not comply with government guidelines will face strict legal action and fines.
She stated that the main objective of the Transport Department is to prevent road accidents and ensure safe transportation for students. Therefore, such special checking campaigns against overloaded vehicles and those violating traffic rules will continue regularly.
The Regional Transport Officer mentioned that special priority will be given to the safety of school buses during checking campaigns so that students can avail safe and regulation-compliant transportation facilities.
Assistant Transport Officer Gurjit Singh was also present on the occasion. He appealed to vehicle owners and school administrators to fully comply with traffic rules and the 'Safe School Vahan Policy'.
