Karnal, December 30: Putrada Ekadashi was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor at the Shri Khatu Shyam Temple located in the old grain market of the city. On the occasion of Ekadashi, the temple premises and the idol of Baba Shyam were beautifully decorated with flowers. Long queues of devotees were seen at the temple from early morning for darshan and worship. Special bhajans and kirtans were organized on the occasion of Ekadashi.
During the kirtan, the bhajan singers glorified the greatness of Baba Shyam, leaving the devotees deeply moved. At the time of the evening aarti, the entire temple premises resonated with chants of "Jai Shri Shyam." On this occasion, the importance of Putrada Ekadashi was also explained to the devotees. Prasad was distributed to the devotees by the temple committee.
On this occasion, Pandit Deepak Pandey explained that Putrada Ekadashi is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha (bright half) of the Paush month. During the Ekadashi fast, Lord Vishnu is worshipped. Importantly, many devotees observe a complete fast on this day, while others consume only fruits. This fast is observed with great devotion. This fast is very important for childless couples. It is believed that observing this fast with devotion leads to the blessing of children. Those observing the fast should chant the name of Lord Vishnu.
On this occasion, the chief caretaker of the temple, Desraj Gupta, said that devotees from Karnal and far-off places come to have darshan of Baba Shyam and fulfill their wishes. He also informed that keeping in mind the winter season, tea and biscuits are being served daily at the temple in the mornings. The temple committee has also distributed warm clothes to its employees.
On this occasion, the chief caretaker of the temple, Desraj Gupta, Rajesh Garg, Mahendra Gupta, Anil Garg, Ram Karan Goyal, Ashok Singla, Anupam Tripathi, Pandit Umesh Pandey, Pawan Gupta, Rajesh Singla, and Harish, along with a large number of devotees, were present.
