Ratia, April 6: A state-level meeting of the Punjabi Teachers and Language Promotion Society was held at Gurudwara Sri Neem Sahib in Kaithal, presided over by State President Dr. Harjit Singh Gill. Punjabi teachers from various districts across Haryana gathered for this meeting. State Secretary Sunil Goyal anchored the proceedings and presented the meeting's agenda. Emphasis was placed during the meeting on increasing student enrollment in government schools. Kaithal District President Balwinder Singh Saraon welcomed the organization to the district during the meeting.
On this occasion, the organization's Patron Puran Singh Varaich, State President Dr. Harjit Singh Gill, Finance Secretary Balbir Singh, and other state office-bearers lauded the services rendered to the organization at the state level. Furthermore, retired State Coordinator Dr. Naib Singh Mander, Principal Hans Raj, Dr. Karnail Chand, Umit Singh (who has attained the position of Assistant Director in the Language Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs), and Jagdeep Multani (who has become an Assistant Professor) were honored with mementos in recognition of their contributions.
They were extended best wishes for a bright future. During the meeting, State President Dr. Gill presented a report on the organization's achievements and objectives. He appealed to the Haryana Government, highlighting that approximately 300 posts for TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) Punjabi remain vacant in government schools across Haryana. He noted that while the number of students opting for Punjabi has increased following the implementation of the Three-Language Formula, students are facing significant difficulties due to a shortage of Punjabi teachers.
Therefore, he urged that the vacant posts for Punjabi teachers and lecturers be filled as soon as possible through a combination of promotions and new recruitments. Discussing the curriculum, State Treasurer Balbir Singh Sirsa announced that, starting from the current academic session, the Haryana Board of School Education (Bhiwani) would introduce Punjabi as a subject for classes 9 through 12 under the CBSE framework. Welcoming the proposed agenda for curriculum implementation, he pointed out that the previous curriculum and examination paper designs for Punjabi contained several errors; he stated that demands would be raised in the future—through meetings with officials—to rectify these discrepancies. Furthermore, addressing the gathering, the organization's Patron Puran Singh Wadaich, State Convener Dr. Naib Singh Mander, Assistant Professor Jagdeep Multani, Dr. Gurdeep Singh Karnal, Buta Singh Fatehabad, Kulwinder Singh Padam, and Hans Raj expressed their views on strengthening the organization. They further urged the Haryana Government and the Education Department to rectify the seniority list of TGT Punjabi teachers, expedite the transfer process for teachers, and ensure that no Punjabi teacher's post is usurped during the transfer exercise.
On this occasion, the organization presented a *Swaroop* (sacred image) of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji to Major Singh Guhla, a member of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. Additionally, Charanjit Kaur and Gagandeep Kaur—students from Kaithal district who secured first place at the state level in various competitions related to the Punjabi language—along with their teacher, Harjinder Singh Jammu, were honored with a 'Badge of Honor.' Also present at the event were Kashmir Singh, Hira Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Gurnam Singh, Lakhvir Singh, Daljit Singh, Surinder Pal, Mahinder Pal, and Rajinder Singh, alongside other office-bearers and Punjabi teachers.
