Chandigarh, November 8, 2025- Displaying great skills, precise fights and superior martial arts, Punjab once again maintained its dominance by winning the overall Gatka championship in the 2nd National Cultural Pythian Games-2025 held at the campus of Bengaluru City University, Karnataka. Haryana finished second. The Gatka competitions presented a mesmerizing display of India’s traditional martial art to the event, which was one of the main attractions of the Pythian Games.
In the intense and exciting competitions that lasted for over two days, the boys from Punjab and the girls from Haryana showcased their best sportsmanship and martial techniques to win the top titles in their respective categories. Haryana boys and Punjab girls finished second while Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh shared third place in boys and Chandigarh and Andhra Pradesh jointly secured third place in girls’ events.
The Gatka competition was inaugurated by Bijender Goel, Founder of Modern Pythian Cultural Games and Chairman of Pythian Council of India amidst great enthusiasm and lively traditional performances. Later, the semi-final competitions were inaugurated by B. H. Anil Kumar, IAS, Chairman, Organizing Committee of the 2nd National Cultural Pythian Games.
The final Gatka competitions of the concluding day were inaugurated by Advocate Harjit Singh Grewal, President, National Gatka Association of India (NGAI) who appreciated the Gatka players for displaying exemplary sportsmanship and discipline. Sukhchain Singh Kalsani, Jaspreet Singh Saini, Arthi Diwan, Srijit Surendra and Coach Venugopal Veloli (Bengaluru) along with Senior Gatka Coach Jagdish Singh and referees Harnam Singh, Harsimran Singh, Amritpal Singh, Jashanpreet Singh, Sherry Singh, Narinderpal Singh, Aman Singh Chhattisgarh etc. were present in this event.
The results of the girls were as follows: In the Gatka-Soti team competition, Ashmeet Kaur, Jaskirat Kaur and Arjameet Kaur from Haryana won the gold medal while Damanpreet Kaur, Ramanpreet Kaur and Pavneet Kaur from Punjab won the silver medal. The Chandigarh team of Gurmanpreet Kaur, Navdeep Kaur and Ravneet Kaur and the Badpally Dik Shitha, Kadiala Bala Chandana Priya and G Diffie from Andhra Pradesh jointly won the bronze medals.
In the Gatka-Soti individual events, Pawneet Kaur (Punjab) won the gold medal, Harmanpreet Kaur (Chandigarh) won the silver while Badepalli Deek Shitha (Andhra Pradesh) and Kashmir Kaur (Haryana) jointly won the bronze medal.
In the Furi-Soti team events, Ekamjot Kaur, Arjameet Kaur and Harsimarpreet Kaur from Haryana won the gold medal. Jinal, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jashanpreet Kaur from Chandigarh won the silver medal while Mehakdeep Kaur, Ramandeep Kaur and Prabhleen Kaur from Punjab and Nidhi, Vidhi and Dimple from Chhattisgarh jointly won the bronze medal.
In the Farri-Soti individual competition, Gursimran Kaur (Punjab) won the gold medal, Arjameet Kaur (Haryana) won the silver medal while M. Dhatri Moghadrama (Andhra Pradesh) and Jashanpreet Kaur (Chandigarh) jointly won the bronze medal.

In the Gatka-Soti individual competition, Jaskirat Singh (Haryana) won the gold medal, Arshdeep Singh (Punjab) won the silver and Prabhasis Singh (Punjab) and Jagjot Singh (Uttarakhand) jointly won the bronze medal.
In the Gatka-Soti team competition, Rajwinder Singh, Jagjot Singh and Abhijot Singh from Uttarakhand won the gold medal, Narinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Prabhasis Singh from Punjab won the silver medal. Rajbir Singh, Simranpreet Singh and Armandeep Singh from Haryana and Gurpreet Singh, Gurjot Singh and Samarth Singh from Chhattisgarh jointly won bronze medals.
In the individual javelin event, Warspreet Singh (Haryana) won the gold medal, Jaskaran Singh (Punjab) won the silver medal while Hardeep Singh (Telangana) and Abhijot Singh (Uttarakhand) jointly won bronze medals.
In the team javelin event, Gursharan Singh, Amanpreet Singh and Jaskaran Singh from Punjab won the gold medal, Ajaypal Singh, Sehajpal Singh and Samarjit Singh from Haryana won the silver medal while Satwant Singh, Manpreet Singh and Bahadur Singh from Chandigarh and Anmoldeep Singh, Jaskirat Singh and Warspreet Singh from Haryana jointly won the bronze medal.
