Dirba, Sangrur, 24 April:- Under the "War Against Drugs" and "Guardians of the Villages" campaigns, the Sangrur Police has taken major action against drug smugglers in Sub-Division Dirba, arresting 15 individuals. Making this disclosure, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Sangrur, Sartaj Singh Chahal, stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the Punjab Government’s campaign against drugs is yielding positive results.
SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal informed that between 17 April and 23 April 2026, the police of Sub-Division Dirba registered 09 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 15 persons. In these various cases, 228 intoxicating tablets and 24 grams of heroin were recovered. Additionally, 07 individuals trapped in the quagmire of drugs have been admitted to drug de-addiction centers, and 05 individuals have been registered at Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) centers to begin their medication.
He further added that the Dirba Sub-Division police issued 105 traffic tickets (challans) for various offenses involving violations of traffic rules, and preventive action was taken against 18 persons for disturbing law and order. To ensure the safety of the general public in the area, action was taken against 60 suspicious persons under Section 172 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) during day and night checkpoints and patrolling.
SSP Chahal also appealed to the public to cooperate in the anti-drug campaign. He mentioned that by holding meetings with village councils (Panchayats), sports clubs, and prominent citizens, the general public—especially the youth—is being sensitized about the ill effects of drugs. He urged people to provide information to the police regarding smugglers involved in the illicit drug trade so that the curse of drugs can be eradicated from its roots. He stated that the Sangrur Police is committed to taking strict action against drug peddlers and bad elements while making solid efforts to prevent drug abuse.
