Oslo:- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently on a visit to Norway, held various bilateral meetings with Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir; Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo; and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen here on Tuesday.
On the second day of his visit to Norway, Modi held these bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of these countries ahead of the 3rd India-Nordic Summit. During these meetings, the two sides discussed important issues of bilateral and international importance. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were also present on the occasion.
After his meeting with Ms. Jakobsdottir, Mr. Modi said in a social media post: "Had a wonderful meeting with the Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrin Jakobsdottir. India attaches great importance to its friendship with Iceland. We discussed measures to further strengthen ties in various areas including clean energy, fisheries, sustainable development, geothermal energy, and carbon capture and storage. Iceland's expertise in areas related to the blue economy is commendable. We are confident that the historic India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement will give new momentum to our trade and investment relations."
After his meeting with Ms. Frederiksen, he remarked: "Had a fruitful meeting with Mette Frederiksen in Oslo. Over the past few years, India-Denmark friendship has made remarkable progress. Cooperation has expanded in areas such as water resources, clean energy, shipping and food processing. In the coming years, similar synergies can be expected in fintech, industry, defence, innovation and other areas. I invited Danish pension funds to expand their investments in India." "We are confident that the India-EU Free Trade Agreement will have a significant impact on both our economies." During the meeting with the Finnish Prime Minister, the two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation in the areas of trade, digital technology, innovation, green transition and sustainable development. A key agenda during the talks was to take the digital partnership between India and Finland to new heights - especially in 5G, 6G, and quantum computing.
Modi and the Danish Prime Minister, Ms. Frederiksen, discussed ways to enhance renewable energy, trade, and strategic ties. The two countries are working to strengthen bilateral ties in the areas of defense and clean technology, as well as within the framework of the 'Green Strategic Partnership'.
At the Nordic Summit, Mr. Modi will discuss all aspects of the relationship between India and the Nordic countries, as well as ways to further enhance cooperation and partnership, with the Prime Ministers of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland.
The first India-Nordic Summit was held in Stockholm in 2018, and the second in Copenhagen in 2022. After participating in the Nordic Summit, Mr. Modi will leave for Italy for the last leg of his tour.
