Chandigarh, 26 September:- During a press conference held here on Saturday, a team of doctors from Park Hospital, Mohali, including Director-CTVS Dr. Siddharth Garg, Associate Director-Cardiac Anaesthesia Dr. Arjun Joshi, Associate Director-Interventional Cardiology Dr. Sankalp Sharma and Senior Consultant-Interventional Cardiology Dr. Sachin Bansal, highlighted cardiac care management.
Dr. Siddharth Garg said, "This year's World Heart Day theme—'Don't Miss a Beat'—emphasises recognising the warning signs and symptoms of heart diseases and the importance of seeking timely medical assistance. The campaign focuses on helping people identify symptoms that are often ignored."
On the occasion, Park Hospital Mohali also announced the launch of a dedicated 'Heart Valve Clinic'. The clinic will provide free echo screening and INR tests every Saturday to help identify valve patients at an early stage and offer them the best treatment options. Park Hospital has already performed 100 successful valve surgeries in the last six months.
Dr. Sankalp Sharma said, "According to recent data, around 30 per cent of the urban population and 15 per cent of the population living in rural areas suffer from high BP and heart attacks."
Dr. Sachin Bansal said that as risk factors for heart diseases are increasing, mortality rates are also rising.
Dr. Arjun Joshi said, "Patients suffering from Type 2 diabetes have a 2 to 3 times higher risk of heart disease compared to the general population. Currently, 100 million people in India are suffering from diabetes, and this number is expected to rise to 135 million by 2035."
Dr. Siddharth said that in view of the current situation, there is an urgent need to focus on preventive healthcare. This includes increasing awareness about diseases and their risk factors. Public education programmes, workshops and counselling sessions should be organised to create awareness on a large scale.
