Una, May 15: Under the Panchayati Raj elections, a total of 4,532 candidates are in the electoral fray for various posts across Una district. Following the conclusion of the nomination withdrawal period, election symbols were allotted to the candidates on Friday. District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal stated that the process for withdrawing nominations was completed on May 14 and 15. The election symbols were distributed after 3:00 PM on May 15.
Among the total candidates, 45 are contesting for the 17 wards of the Zila Parishad (District Council), and 417 for the seats of the Panchayat Samiti (Block Council). Additionally, for the 249 Gram Panchayats, there are 882 candidates for the post of Pradhan (Head), 960 for the post of Up-Pradhan (Deputy Head), and 2,228 for the post of Ward Member. From Ward No. 23 (Polian Beet) of the Panchayat Samiti, one candidate has been elected unopposed. Meanwhile, five Gram Panchayats in the district have been elected entirely unopposed.
These include the Binewal and Udaipur Panchayats in the Una subdivision; Jakhewal and Pandoga Nichla in the Haroli subdivision; and Bohru Panchayat in the Bangana subdivision. In these Panchayats, all members—including the Pradhan, Up-Pradhan, and Ward Members—have been elected unopposed. Furthermore, candidates for various specific posts across other Panchayats have also been elected unopposed.
In the Gagret block, during the two-day nomination withdrawal period, 17 candidates for the post of Pradhan, 22 for Up-Pradhan, 33 for Ward Member, 3 for Panchayat Samiti Member, and 2 for Zila Parishad withdrew their nominations. Consequently, there are now 162 candidates contesting for the post of Pradhan, 158 for Up-Pradhan, and 366 for Ward Member across the 41 Panchayats in the block. Additionally, 85 candidates for Panchayat Samiti Member and 10 for Zila Parishad remain in the fray. Thus, a total of 781 candidates are contesting for various posts under the Gagret block. In Bangana Block, 37 candidates for the post of Pradhan, 74 for Up-Pradhan, and 102 for Ward Member withdrew their nominations. Additionally, 4 candidates for the Panchayat Samiti and one for the Zila Parishad also withdrew their nominations. Consequently, for the 49 Panchayats in this block, there are now 176 candidates in the electoral fray for the post of Pradhan, 197 for Up-Pradhan, and 463 for Ward Member. Furthermore, 76 candidates for the Panchayat Samiti and 8 for the Zila Parishad remain in the field. In total, there are now 920 candidates contesting for various posts under Bangana Block.
In Una Block, 79 candidates for the post of Pradhan, 93 for Up-Pradhan, and 93 for Ward Member withdrew their nominations. 13 candidates for the Panchayat Samiti and 2 for the Zila Parishad also withdrew their nominations. Now, for the 54 Panchayats in this block, 149 candidates will contest for the post of Pradhan, 177 for Up-Pradhan, and 489 for Ward Member. Meanwhile, 73 candidates for the Panchayat Samiti and 11 for the Zila Parishad remain in the field. Thus, a total of 899 candidates are contesting for various posts under Una Block.
In Amb Block, 9 candidates for the post of Pradhan, 16 for Up-Pradhan, 19 for Ward Member, 3 for Panchayat Samiti Member, and one for the Zila Parishad withdrew their nominations. Following this, for the 57 Panchayats in this block, there are now 233 candidates in the electoral fray for the post of Pradhan, 259 for Up-Pradhan, and 570 for Ward Member. Additionally, 100 candidates for the Panchayat Samiti and 7 for the Zila Parishad remain in the field. In total, there are now 1,169 candidates for various posts under Amb Block.
Meanwhile, in Haroli Block, 64 candidates for the post of Pradhan, 32 for Up-Pradhan, 52 for Ward Member, 11 for the Panchayat Samiti, and 2 for the Zila Parishad withdrew their nominations. Consequently, for the 48 Panchayats in this block, there are now 162 candidates in the electoral fray for the post of Pradhan, 169 for Up-Pradhan, and 340 for Ward Member. Additionally, 83 candidates for the Panchayat Samiti and 9 for the Zila Parishad will contest the elections. Thus, a total of 763 candidates are contesting for various posts under the Haroli Block.
