Dirba, 10 October:- Tapinder Singh Sohi, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, today inaugurated the Dirba Cricket League at Shadihari village in the Dirba Assembly constituency. The league is being organised under the leadership of Satpal Mahi Khadial, Chairman of Sports Welfare, and Pritam Singh Peetu, Chairman of the Sangrur Improvement Trust. Around 58 cricket teams will participate in the league. It is noteworthy that the stadium at Shadihari village is one of the finest stadiums in Sangrur district.

Speaking to journalists on the occasion, Tapinder Singh Sohi said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is continuously making efforts to promote interest in sports among young people and provide them with better sporting facilities. He said that the construction of sports stadiums in villages is giving young people opportunities to practise near their homes and hone their talent.

Sohi said that sports not only promote physical fitness among young people but also instil discipline, team spirit and the determination to progress through hard work. He said that such competitions need to be organised regularly to encourage the growing participation of young people in sports grounds.

Referring to the sports stadium at Shadihari village, he said that a magnificent stadium had been completed in the village through the efforts of Sarpanch Jagseer Singh Jagga, and the Dirba Cricket League had been launched from there. He added that the league would continue for several days across different villages of the constituency, providing players with a platform to showcase their sporting skills.

Tapinder Singh Sohi further said that leagues for kabaddi, kho-kho and other sports would also be organised in the coming period. He said that a league for girls would soon be held as well to increase their participation in sports and provide them with more opportunities to develop their talent and advance in competitions.

On the occasion, Chairman Pritam Singh Peetu, Satpal Mahi Khadial, Chairperson Jasvir Kaur Shergill and Chairman Harwinder Singh Chhajli said that under the leadership of Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, construction work on 38 new sports stadiums in the Dirba constituency had almost been completed. They said these stadiums were being developed in accordance with national-level sporting requirements and technical standards, with facilities for various sports.

They said that, alongside the development of sports infrastructure, organising such leagues would play an important role in identifying talented players from villages and motivating them to progress. They urged young people to make use of these facilities and participate enthusiastically in sporting competitions.

Shadihari village Sarpanch Jagseer Singh Jagga thanked the guests and organisers, saying that it was a matter of pride for the villagers that the Dirba Cricket League, which would be played across different villages throughout the constituency, had begun in their village. He said such sporting events not only connect young people with sports but also strengthen mutual understanding and community bonds in villages.
