Chandigarh, November 5:- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini addressed a programme organised on Thursday on the occasion of the ‘Save Democracy–Remove Anarchy’ padyatra in Karnal. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah flagged off the padyatra.
Union Minister Manohar Lal, Haryana State In-charge and former Union Minister Smriti Irani, BJP State President Dr. Archana Gupta, Cabinet Ministers Krishan Lal Panwar, Rao Narbir Singh, Mahipal Dhanda, Dr. Arvind Sharma and Krishan Bedi, Minister of State Gaurav Gautam, Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishan Midha, Chief Government Whip and MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap, MLAs Jagmohan Anand, Bhagwandas Kabirpanthi and Yogendra Rana, along with senior office-bearers and a large number of citizens and party workers, were present.
The Chief Minister welcomed and felicitated Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on his arrival in the sacred land of Haryana. He said that the opposition was spreading misleading propaganda regarding SIR. He said that Karnal, the city of philanthropist Karna, is known for its traditions of sacrifice, service and charity. In a democracy, every citizen's vote is the most important right, ensuring their participation in shaping the future of the country and the state.
He said that strengthening democracy requires the name of every eligible citizen to be included in the electoral roll so that they can exercise their right to vote without any hindrance. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is an important process in this direction, aimed at making voter lists more accurate, transparent and reliable.
The Chief Minister said that the government's clear resolve is to ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of the right to vote. Names of deceased persons, duplicate entries and incorrect records in the electoral rolls should be examined and corrected through the appropriate procedure in accordance with the rules. He appealed to the people of the state to check their own names and those of their family members in the electoral rolls and, in case of any error, submit claims or objections to the concerned election officer as per the prescribed rules.
The Chief Minister said that just as people clean their homes before Diwali, the accuracy and transparency of electoral rolls are also essential for strengthening the democratic system. This process is not against any individual or section of society, but is intended to further strengthen the democratic system. He appealed to the youth to remain aware of democracy, understand the facts, respect constitutional institutions and fulfil their duties along with exercising their rights. He said that Haryana is known for hard work, honesty, brotherhood and patriotism, and it is the collective responsibility of everyone to uphold these social and constitutional values.
The Chief Minister thanked the mothers, sisters, youth, farmers, workers and citizens who participated in the padyatra. He said that safeguarding the rights of every eligible voter, making the electoral rolls error-free and increasing public participation in the democratic process are shared responsibilities. He appealed to party workers to visit every village and ward and encourage eligible citizens to check their names in the electoral rolls. If anyone's name has been left out, they should help that person through the prescribed procedure. They should extend support to senior citizens, women and young people registering as voters for the first time. He assured the people that awareness about SIR would be spread under the leadership of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
The Chief Minister concluded his address with the slogans, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Haryana, Jai Hind and Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
