Karnal, July 7:- To ensure effective control over waterlogging in the city during the monsoon, Municipal Commissioner Saloni Sharma personally visited the field amidst heavy rainfall on Tuesday. She inspected various areas prone to waterlogging, as well as drains and disposal pumps. During the inspection, she assessed the drainage system on-site and issued necessary directives to the concerned officials. Superintending Engineer Puneet Kumar, Executive Engineer Priyanka Saini, and relevant Assistant and Junior Engineers were present on the occasion.
Inspection of the disposal pump beneath the Kaithal Road railway flyover:
The Municipal Commissioner first visited the disposal pump located under the Kaithal Road railway flyover, where she conducted a detailed inspection of the rainwater drainage system. She gathered information regarding pump operations, the rate of water drainage, and the status from the staff deployed on-site. Subsequently, she inspected the drain passing through the Prem Nagar and Ram Nagar areas to assess water flow and cleanliness arrangements.
Visit to Hansi Road, Ramesh Nagar, Novelty Road, Baso Gate, and Meera Ghati Chowk:
Following this, the Municipal Commissioner inspected the drain near Bagwadia Gas Agency on Hansi Road and the Ramesh Nagar area. She also visited other sensitive locations—including Novelty Road, Baso Gate, and Meera Ghati Chowk—to evaluate the rainwater drainage system on the spot. During the inspection, she instructed officials to maintain special vigilance in areas highly prone to waterlogging and to immediately remove any obstructions.
Directives to ensure immediate action in waterlogging-prone areas:
The Municipal Commissioner issued clear instructions to officials that immediate action must be taken without delay in any area of the city where a waterlogging problem arises. He directed that gensets, super-suckers, jetting machines, and other necessary resources be immediately dispatched to the site as required, ensuring the swift drainage of rainwater so that citizens do not face any inconvenience.
All engineers to remain active in the field; disposal pumps to operate at full capacity:
He instructed all Junior Engineers to remain constantly present in their respective areas to monitor the situation and ensure the prompt resolution of any complaints. He further directed that all disposal pumps and intermediate pumping stations operate at full capacity and that adequate manpower be available at every site to prevent any hindrance to drainage operations.
Waterlogging natural during heavy rain, but drainage remained continuous: Municipal Commissioner
Municipal Commissioner Saloni Sharma stated that while temporary waterlogging is natural during periods of heavy and continuous rainfall, the Municipal Corporation's advance preparations and active monitoring ensured that the drainage of rainwater continued uninterrupted. She noted that in most locations, water cleared completely from the roads shortly after the rain stopped.
She added that Municipal Corporation teams are working in 'active mode' 24 hours a day throughout the monsoon season. Measures such as regular drain cleaning, the smooth operation of disposal pumps, and continuous field-level monitoring are being implemented to minimize the risk of waterlogging. The Municipal Corporation is fully prepared to effectively handle any emergency situation during the monsoon.
