Washington, D.C.: U.S. President Donald Trump has said that India had imposed high tariffs on American goods for a long time and benefited from them. However, he claimed that the situation has now changed and that the United States is securing a better trade arrangement with India.
Trump stated that a major trade agreement between the United States and India could be finalized soon. Praising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “I like Modi very much. Modi is a very good friend of mine. We have a great relationship, and we understand each other very well.”
Trump’s remarks come at a time when a U.S. delegation recently held several rounds of discussions with Indian government officials in New Delhi. Both countries are working toward reaching an interim trade agreement aimed at resolving certain trade-related issues in the near future.
According to India’s Ministry of Commerce, the discussions have been positive, and both sides are seeking an agreement that would benefit both India and the United States.
The developments indicate that the two nations are continuing to work closely together to strengthen their economic ties and advance a mutually beneficial trade deal.
