Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, September 1, 2026: A marathon dedicated to the 650th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji was organized by the District Sports Officer, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, in collaboration with the district administration. The marathon was flagged off from the Sports Complex, Sector-78, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar.
The District Sports Officer stated that prominent figures from the district and officials from the district administration specially attended the flag-off ceremony. Dignitaries present on the occasion included Mr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia (Chairman, Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board), Er. Prabhjot Kaur (Chairperson, District Planning Committee), and Mr. Ranjeet Pal Singh (Chairman, District Traders Commission), along with other officials.
On this occasion, the special guests encouraged children and the youth to remain actively engaged in sports. They remarked that sports play a crucial role not only in physical and mental development but also in fostering discipline, dedication, team spirit, and a healthy lifestyle among the youth. They urged the athletes to excel in the field of sports and bring glory to Punjab and the nation.
The District Sports Officer noted that approximately 700 participants took part in the marathon with great enthusiasm. The spirited participation of the elderly, alongside children and the youth, made the event particularly memorable. The involvement of people across various age groups demonstrated the growing awareness in society regarding sports and a healthy lifestyle.
It was further mentioned that all participants were provided with T-shirts and honored with medals upon the conclusion of the marathon. Refreshments were also arranged for the participants and the officials present.
Ms. Umaheshwari Sharma (District Sports Officer), along with coaches, officials and staff from the Sports Department, and other concerned dignitaries, were present at the event.
