Haryana/Hisar:- The 2nd National Para Road Cycling Championship and the 1st National Para Track Cycling Championship were successfully concluded in Hyderabad. The event was organized under the joint aegis of the Telangana State Cycling Association, the Cycling Federation of India, and the Paralympic Committee of India. Around 70 players from various states across the country participated in the competition.
In the road cycling championship, the senior category featured 18-kilometer and 12-kilometer individual time trial events, while separate competitions were organized for junior category and special category players. The first National Para Track Cycling Championship was held at the Cycling Velodrome of Osmania University, where 1-kilometer individual time trial, 4-kilometer individual pursuit race, and 200-meter sprint events were conducted.
In the MC-2 category 4-kilometer individual pursuit race, Arshad Sheikh from Andhra Pradesh secured first place, Aryavardhan from Telangana stood second, and Jalaluddin Ansari from Bihar achieved third place.
In the 1-kilometer individual time trial competition, Arshad Sheikh won the gold medal, Aryavardhan secured the silver medal, and Jalaluddin won the bronze medal.
In the Women’s C-3 category, Vishwaben from Gujarat delivered an outstanding performance by winning three gold medals in the individual time trial, sprint race, and 3000-meter individual pursuit race.
On this occasion, Manish Rana, Director of the Paralympic Committee, stated that this competition is an important initiative for para-athletes. He said that keeping in view the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as the proposed 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games in India, systematic planning is being undertaken to ensure that Indian athletes perform excellently in international, Asian, and Commonwealth competitions and bring glory to the nation.
During the competition, classification assessment tests of players were conducted by the Aditya Mehta Foundation. The foundation’s athletes also delivered excellent performances.
At the closing ceremony, Manish Rana from the Paralympic Committee, Manish Sahni and Dattatreya from the Cycling Federation of India, coaches Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, Dharma Teja, Krishna Yadav, and Jagdish Asija from Haryana, along with players and officials from various states, were present.
