Amritsar, September 8:- Cases of cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons continue to surface in Punjab. In the latest action, Amritsar Rural Police busted another module involved in the smuggling of narcotics and illegal weapons and arrested two accused. Police recovered 5 kg of heroin and 15 illegal pistols from their possession. This information was shared by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav.
The DGP said that a preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign handlers and used to receive consignments of illegal weapons and narcotics and further supply them as per instructions.
He said that police have registered an FIR against the accused at Gharinda Police Station under provisions of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway to trace their forward and backward linkages, identify other persons involved in the gang and dismantle the entire network.
