Visakhapatnam:- A major accident took place on Monday at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Eight workers were killed and many others injured due to molten iron spilling in the plant. The injured were admitted to the hospital for treatment. According to reports, the accident took place when a large bucket of molten iron was being moved from one place to another using a crane. The temperature of the iron was around 1600 degrees Celsius at the time of the accident. The very hot molten iron fell from the bucket and fell on the workers working there. The incident took place at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL). The incident spread panic inside the plant. Rescue and relief teams immediately evacuated the injured and took them to the hospital.
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalpudi Anitha, while reacting to the accident, inquired about the incident over the phone with the District Collector and Police Commissioner of Visakhapatnam. She directed the officials to ensure the best treatment to the injured.
The Home Minister also directed that rescue and relief operations be intensified. According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Home Minister, Vangalpudi Anitha left for the accident site as soon as she came to know about the incident. She is in constant touch with the authorities and is giving necessary instructions.
According to the latest information, several workers present at the spot have suffered severe burns in the incident. Some workers are feared to be trapped inside the unit after the fire broke out due to leakage. Fire and emergency service teams have reached the spot and are engaged in firefighting and rescue operations. The exact number of injured and trapped workers has not been officially confirmed yet.
