Sangrur, September 12:- ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan’ is playing a meaningful role in keeping the youth of Punjab away from drugs and other social evils and channelising their energy towards sports, fitness and success. MLA Sangrur Narinder Kaur Bharaj made this statement while encouraging players during the block-level sports competitions at Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Stadium, Gharachon. On the occasion, Chairman of the District Planning Board Gurmel Singh Gharachon, Sarpanch Daljit Singh Ghuman, Malwinder Singh, Baljinder Singh, Gurcharan Singh and other dignitaries were also present.
MLA Bharaj lauded the sports-oriented vision of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann and said that these games, launched to provide a platform to sports talent in the villages and cities of Punjab, have now taken the shape of a major sporting festival. She said, “When a young person makes the playing field their destination, their hard work gets direction, their dreams get wings and their life gets discipline.”
She encouraged the players to participate in the competitions in the true spirit of sportsmanship, rising above victory and defeat, and to make Punjab proud through their hard work.
Chairman of the District Planning Board Gurmel Singh Gharachon said that ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan’ has provided a major platform for sports talent from villages to showcase their skills. He said that youth associated with sports move towards discipline, fitness and constructive thinking. He encouraged the youth to develop a strong connection with sports grounds and enhance Punjab’s pride through their hard work.
District Sports Officer Navdeep Singh said that the tournaments in Sangrur, Dhuri and Sherpur blocks have been completed, while competitions in athletics, football, kho-kho, kabaddi national and circle style, and volleyball in different age groups are being organised at Dirba, Lehragaga and Andana. The competitions of Bhawanigarh block also commenced today. Athletics, kho-kho, football and volleyball competitions are being organised at Gharachon, while kabaddi competitions are being held at Bairagi Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Stadium, Pannwan. Tennis-ball cricket competitions are also being organised this time.
In the tennis-ball cricket competitions of Lehragaga block, Punjab Sports Club Lehragaga secured first place, while P.M. Shri Government Senior Secondary School Lehragaga secured second place. At Bhawanigarh, competitions including the under-14 girls’ 60-metre race and long jump continued.
