Hoshiarpur (Daljit Ajnoha):- Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Member of Parliament Avinash Rai Khanna strongly condemned the controversial statement made by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a public event in Patna, the capital of Bihar. He said that the use of such language from a public platform by someone holding a responsible position like the Congress president was highly unfortunate and reflected the party’s political frustration.

Khanna said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a leader elected with the mandate of crores of citizens of the country. The opposition has the democratic right to disagree with him politically, but making personal and family-related remarks in the name of opposition cannot be justified under any circumstances. Political opposition should be based on ideas, policies and performance, rather than targeting family members. The former MP said that Mallikarjun Kharge is the national president of the Congress, and people holding such positions in public life are expected to demonstrate civility, restraint and responsible conduct. In this context, the language used by him lowers the standard of political discourse. The people of the country are watching how the opposition, instead of engaging in meaningful discussions on development, public welfare and national issues, is turning personal remarks into political weapons.

Khanna said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has moved forward in the direction of development, good governance, national security and enhancing India’s standing on the global stage. Disagreement with such a leader should be expressed through facts and reasoned arguments. Personal jibes cannot conceal the policy weaknesses of any political party. He urged the Congress leadership to clarify its position on such language and take necessary steps to maintain political decorum.

Khanna expressed confidence that the people of the country would prioritise development, good governance and national interest over politics based on personal allegations and counter-allegations. He said that regardless of the extent of political differences, all political parties have a responsibility to maintain decorum in their discourse about individuals holding the country’s highest democratic offices. He emphasised that words carry dignity in a democracy, and everyone holding public office must remain mindful of this responsibility.
