Jalandhar:- occasion of the 208th birth anniversary of Karl Marx, a discussion organized by the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee on the topic "Relevance of Marxism in Contemporary Times" concluded that imperialism—the highest stage of capitalism—has fully exposed its exploitative, warmongering, and fascist face to the world. Consequently, public opposition is emerging on the global stage.
Delivering the opening remarks, Gurmeet Singh, General Secretary of the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee, stated that Marxist science alone holds the cure for the multifaceted ailments afflicting society. He emphasized that this remedy is not a spontaneous occurrence; rather, the forces of social change must come forward to play a conscious role. The General Secretary stressed that continuing such series of discussions is a pressing need of the hour.
Focusing his speech on the "Relevance of Marxism in Contemporary Times," Buta Singh Mehmoodpur—a renowned writer, translator, and prominent advocate for the democratic rights movement—stated that Karl Marx's birth anniversary marks the birth of the creation of a new society led by the working class.
Marx highlighted that capitalism is perpetually mired in crisis due to the contradictions inherent within its existence. Although it beats the drum of capitalism being an eternal system, the reality is that the seeds of its own destruction are embedded deep within it.
Citing historical facts and present-day realities, Buta Singh Mehmoodpur asserted that Marxist philosophy remains the supreme political current for revolutionary social change. He highlighted that the current anti-people system, which boasts of being firmly established, is hollow from within when viewed through Marxist thought.
In its struggle for survival, it resorts to wars and fascist attacks, eventually sinking deeper into crisis. Finally, he stated that for a world system surrounded by numerous problems, the Marxist scientific ideology is the only guide toward liberation, prosperity, progress, equality, and peace.
On this occasion, Master Madan Lal Bullowal, Dr. Jagjit Singh Cheema, Mangat Ram Pasla, Dr. Shailesh, Amish Bagpur, Amrik Singh R.C.F., Kesar, Ramesh Chauka, and Prof. Kewal Kaloti also shared their views. The discussion concluded clearly that capitalist tactics like neo-liberalism are failing. The capitalist system cannot remain permanent. To break its grip, conscious class awareness, the rebuilding of a fresh revolutionary movement, and a relentless class struggle to create a new order are essential.
Amolak Singh, Convener of the Cultural Wing, said that amidst the grave and worrying conditions of the country, credit goes to the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee for addressing relevant issues like the "Relevance of Marxism" to bring a "colorful morning" (a better future) to this earth, regardless of the prevailing darkness.
