Chandigarh (Harminder Nagpal):- On September 30, a delegation led by former Mayor Kamlesh Banarsi Das met the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh to discuss various problems in Ram Darbar. Along with issues concerning the Ram Darbar area, the rehabilitation of poor families living in Indira Awas Colony was prominently raised.
Kamlesh Banarsi Das said that under a de-addiction drive, eight houses in Indira Awas Colony, located near Ram Darbar, had been demolished, creating a serious housing crisis for the affected families. The delegation had requested the Deputy Commissioner to conduct a survey of the entire colony, rather than limiting it to just eight families, and provide eligible families with houses under an appropriate rehabilitation scheme introduced during the Congress government, so that poor families could also live in their own homes with dignity.
Expressing happiness, Kamlesh Banarsi Das said that the Deputy Commissioner had taken cognisance of the demand. The Chandigarh Administration’s Estate Office has directed the concerned department to survey the colony within one week and submit its report to the Deputy Commissioner. A copy of the order issued in this regard has also been sent to him for information.
He thanked the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh and said that the administration’s attention to this serious issue had given a ray of hope to poor families. He said that families who had been waiting for rehabilitation for years deserved justice under government schemes.
Kamlesh Banarsi Das said, “For poor families, a house is not merely four walls; it is the foundation of their dignity, security and future. Our effort is to ensure that no eligible family remains homeless. The administration should conduct an impartial survey and take prompt steps to provide houses to eligible families under a rehabilitation scheme.”
He further said that the delegation had raised the issue to help poor and needy families secure their rightful entitlements. It was now hoped that the survey would be completed soon and the affected families would benefit from rehabilitation.
Kamlesh Banarsi Das made it clear that his efforts for the rehabilitation of poor families and the resolution of other public issues in Ram Darbar would continue.
