Hoshiarpur:- Today, the 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm at the Municipal Corporation. Various officers, employees and union presidents, office bearers and various municipal councilors of the Municipal Corporation participated in this very important event. At 07:58 in the morning, the national flag was hoisted by Mayor Parveen Lata Saini at the Municipal Corporation and the national anthem was sung by the children of Vidya Mandir School, Hoshiarpur.
During this event, the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation, while giving a message to the city residents, congratulated the city residents on Independence Day and remembered the unparalleled sacrifice of those many martyrs who gave their lives for the country and gave freedom to the country. He said that the Constitution Committee, whose founder was Bawa Sahib Dr. BR Ambedkar ji is the one who worked tirelessly day and night and gave a written constitution to independent India.
He was also bowed down by all the attendees. The Mayor Municipal Corporation specially appealed to the city residents to support the Municipal Corporation to keep the city clean and tidy. Separate wet and dry garbage from their homes and give it to the sanitation workers. He said that 45 lakh rupees have been spent to make the roads in front of the Hotel Presidency very beautiful and ultra-modern street lights have been installed on it.
At this place, at 0145, a food street was constructed near the old courthouse at a cost of 70 lakh rupees to provide food and drink facilities to the city residents. To provide 100 percent water supply and sewerage facilities, the Municipal Corporation has spent 3 crore rupees on laying a sewer line. The Municipal Corporation is carrying out development works worth about Rs 35 crore in the city. About 3793 lights have been installed to provide street light facilities to the city residents.
34 new tubewells have been installed in different areas of the city to provide uninterrupted water supply to the city residents. A total of 3750 dogs/bitches have been sterilized/neutered during the year 2025 to prevent stray dogs and now a total of 5000 dogs/bitches are to be sterilized/neutered in the year 2026, the contract for which is being given to a private company. Fogging is being done in all the wards to prevent dengue and malaria diseases in the city.
The cowshed which is located in Ekta Nagar is taking care of about 350 cows. The concerned organization is being paid Rs 5 lakh for the expenses. For the convenience of the city residents, a hearse worth Rs 13 lakh has been purchased by the Municipal Corporation. Finally, the Mayor extended his warm greetings to the city residents on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day.
