Chandigarh, September 30:- A huge Congress public meeting held yesterday evening in Bapudham Colony, located in Ward No. 3, witnessed the participation of thousands of local residents, giving the atmosphere a distinctly electoral character. Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari and Chandigarh Congress President Harmohinder Singh Lucky (H.S. Lucky) were specially present at the meeting.
The huge public meeting was organised jointly with Yenki Kalia and Meenu Kalia. A large number of people from Bapudham participated in the meeting, prominently raised their local issues and expressed their resolve to keep their concerns at the centre of the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections.
Issues related to ownership rights, rights concerning houses, water, sewerage, roads, sanitation, street lights and other basic amenities were prominently raised.
“People of Bapudham Need Their Rights, Not Just Assurances” — Manish Tewari
MP Manish Tewari said that thousands of families in Bapudham had been contributing to the development of Chandigarh for years, but many of their basic problems were still awaiting resolution.
He said the issue of ownership rights was not merely a matter concerning land or houses, but was connected with the security, dignity and future of thousands of families. The administration should formulate a clear policy on the matter and resolve the long-standing concerns of the people.
Tewari said the voice of the people of Bapudham could neither be suppressed nor ignored. Raising people’s problems on appropriate platforms was the responsibility of elected representatives, and Congress would continue to discharge this responsibility with full seriousness.
He said the development of Chandigarh could be considered meaningful only when people belonging to every section and every colony of the city were provided a dignified life and basic amenities.
“Bapudham Is No Longer Just a Vote Bank, but a Strong Civil Society Raising Its Voice for Its Rights” — H.S. Lucky
Chandigarh Congress President H.S. Lucky, addressing the public meeting, said that the people of Bapudham had supported their families for years through their hard work and struggle, but even today they were waiting for answers to several questions related to their homes and basic amenities.
He said:
“The politics of remembering the people of Bapudham only during elections will no longer work. Families living here need not just assurances, but respect for their rights and a permanent solution to their problems. The issue of ownership rights is linked to the future of thousands of families, and Congress will continue to raise this voice strongly.”
H.S. Lucky said Congress was not a party that would merely turn Bapudham’s problems into election issues and leave them there. He said ownership rights, better civic amenities and a dignified life were the rights of every family, and Congress would continue to remain among the people on these issues.
He said local issues would be the most important during the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections and Congress workers would go door to door to understand people’s problems and raise them strongly before the Municipal Corporation and administration.
