Chandigarh, 14 October:- The Haryana Government is fully committed to child protection and welfare. In this direction, the Women and Child Development Department, Haryana, has established 141 Safe Cradle Centres across the state to fulfil the vision of “Empowered Women – Safe Childhood – Prosperous Haryana.”

A government spokesperson, while sharing this information, appealed to the public not to abandon a newborn or child on the road, in an isolated place, under a tree, in a dustbin, outside a hospital or at any other unsafe location under helpless or difficult circumstances. One wrong step could put an innocent child’s life at risk. If a parent or any other person is unable to care for a child for any reason, the child should be handed over to one of these government-established Safe Cradle Centres instead of being abandoned in bushes or other unsafe places.

The spokesperson said that these Safe Cradle Centres had been established at various locations across the state, including childcare institutions, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), civil hospitals and other designated institutions. The spokesperson clarified that if a Safe Cradle Centre is not available in a particular area, the child can also be safely handed over to the Child Welfare Committee constituted in each district.

Assuring citizens, the spokesperson said that the identity of anyone coming forward to hand over a child safely would be kept completely confidential, enabling people to ensure the safety of an innocent child without fear or hesitation. The spokesperson appealed to the general public to collectively pledge that no newborn or child should be found abandoned or in an unsafe situation and that every child should have a safe future.
