Chandigarh, 14 October:- Haryana Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Rajesh Nagar, said that the state government was fully committed to ensuring smooth procurement of farmers’ crops. Ministers and legislators are continuously visiting mandis to review procurement arrangements. The Chief Minister has also issued clear instructions to the concerned officials that farmers must not face any inconvenience while selling their crops.

Mr Nagar was interacting with journalists today during the ‘World Standards Day 2026’ समारोह organised by the Northern Regional Office of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in Chandigarh.

He informed that a meeting had been held with all District Food and Supplies Controllers (DFSCs) through video conferencing just two days ago to review the crops arriving at mandis in different districts and the procurement arrangements. So far, he had not received information about any complaint related to the procurement process. He said that moisture-related issues had arisen at some places due to waterlogging in low-lying areas, but these had been resolved after the affected areas were dried. Necessary preparations had also been made in view of the weather forecast.

Responding to a question about farmers’ complaints, the Minister of State said that the Chief Minister had recently held a meeting with departmental officials to review the crop procurement situation in mandis. Arrangements at all mandis were discussed, and officials were instructed to ensure the prompt resolution of farmers’ problems. Mr Nagar said that the Chief Minister himself came from a farming family and understood farmers’ problems and needs well. Keeping this in view, all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and DFSCs had been directed to ensure that farmers faced no inconvenience in mandis. In addition, officers of IAS rank had been appointed as nodal officers in all mandis across the state to ensure effective monitoring of the procurement process.

He stated that he remained in regular communication with farmers and office-bearers of farmers’ unions. Recently, farmers had also met him at his office in Chandigarh. He had also spoken over the phone with farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni. Mr Nagar said that he had not received any complaints so far and was personally visiting mandis to review procurement arrangements.

He reiterated that the state government was committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests and that all necessary steps were being taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the crop procurement process.
