Hoshiarpur – As part of a series of social initiatives undertaken by the Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplantation Society, a grand planting ceremony for "Makhan Katori"—a plant considered dear to Lord Krishna—was held today at the Geeta Bhawan Manas Kunj Temple on Bharwai Road. Speaking on the occasion, President J.B. Behl and Chairman (and prominent social worker) Sanjeev Arora remarked that a beautiful confluence of religious faith and love for nature was witnessed as the "Makhan Katori" plant—revered as a favorite of Lord Krishna—was planted within the temple premises in accordance with traditional rituals.
Devotees present at the event participated in this meritorious act by offering prayers with deep devotion. Mr. Arora noted that the plantation ceremony commenced with the chanting of mantras and the *Aarti* (hymn of worship) of Lord Krishna, thereby infusing the entire atmosphere with spiritual fervor. Subsequently, the "Makhan Katori" plant was formally planted following a ritualistic worship ceremony conducted by the temple priest. The assembled devotees offered flowers to seek the blessings of the Lord and also pledged to take care of the newly planted sapling.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Prof. Daljit Singh (a retired Head of the Department of Botany) explained that the "Makhan Katori" plant is believed to be intimately associated with Lord Krishna. Its leaves are shaped like small bowls (*katoris*), a unique feature that distinguishes it from other plants and lends it a distinct charm. According to religious beliefs, this plant symbolizes auspiciousness and prosperity; consequently, planting it within temple complexes and other sacred sites is considered to be highly meritorious.
He further added that Lord Krishna's life was deeply intertwined with nature, and the planting of such sacred flora serves not only to strengthen our religious faith but also constitutes a significant step toward environmental conservation. In the present era—marked by ever-increasing pollution—such initiatives serve as a source of inspiration for society at large. Temple committee members Ravindra Kumar Datta and Harish Parashar appealed to all devotees to plant as many saplings as possible in their homes, surrounding areas, and public spaces, and to ensure their regular upkeep, so that future generations may inherit a clean and green environment.
At the conclusion of the program, *Prasad* was distributed, and all those present lauded this commendable initiative, resolving to continue such religious and social endeavors in the future.
