Longowal / Sunam, 20 August:- Punjab Finance, Planning and Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema today participated in blood donation camp set up by Red Cross on death anniversary of Sant Harchand Singh Longowal and floral tributes were paid to unparalleled sacrifice of Sant Longowal. On this occasion Cabinet Minister Shri Aman Arora's wife Mrs. Sabina Arora was also present.
On this occasion Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, "Exactly 41 years ago today Sant Harchand Singh Longowal gave his martyrdom for peace of Punjab. His unparalleled sacrifice will not go in vain. Today Punjab Government while walking on path of peace and communal harmony shown by him salutes his sacrifice."
Special blood donation camp was organized in memory of Sant Longowal, in which large number of people donated blood and paid tribute. Cabinet Minister Cheema told that AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, who as Industry Minister is representing Government in world level conference at Bangalore, has also expressed feelings of reverence.
Finance Minister clarified on this occasion that no attempt has been made by Punjab Government to suppress voice of any journalist or media house. In state every citizen and media has right to put forth their point with full freedom.
Speaking on dharnas of various organizations he said that putting forth their demands during elections or on normal days is right of organizations. Cabinet sub-committee formed under his leadership is continuously holding meetings with all organizations and many legitimate demands have been resolved. This process will continue further.
Replying regarding arrears of DA Shri Cheema told that during previous Akali-BJP and Congress Governments arrears of DA of more than about 14 crore rupees was left pending. AAP Government has presented a systematic plan in High Court and paid about 5,000 to 6,000 crores out of it and remaining arrears will also be released soon.
He said that AAP Government is committed to peace, progress of Punjab and protection of interests of every section.
