Hoshiarpur: Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain stated that the Punjab government has approved a waiver of government fees and facilitation charges for several important citizen services until September 30, 2026. This move aims to ensure the smooth conduct of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign for electoral rolls and to make the process convenient for citizens.
The Deputy Commissioner explained that a large number of citizens are required to submit various documents to the concerned authorities during the Special Intensive Revision process. Keeping this in mind, the state government decided to provide several essential services free of charge for a three-month period, ensuring that citizens do not face any financial or administrative difficulties.
She noted that the services covered by this waiver include the issuance of caste certificates, residence certificates, and birth certificates, as well as the issuance of duplicate certificates for Class 10 and Class 12. Citizens will be able to avail themselves of these services until September 30, 2026.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that this facility would be provided through Sewa Kendras (service centers), citizen services available near homes, and online citizen service portals, making it easier for people to obtain their documents on time and without extra charges.
Ashika Jain mentioned that there has been an increase in the demand for documents such as residence certificates, caste certificates, birth certificates, and educational certificates due to the Special Intensive Revision campaign for electoral rolls being conducted by the Election Commission of India. In this context, the Punjab government's decision will prove to be a major relief for citizens and will play a crucial role in making the Special Intensive Revision process more effective, transparent, and accessible.
