Amritsar:- Punjab's farmers' organization 'Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha' has announced a two-hour nationwide 'Rail Roko' agitation on December 5, 2025. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has said that this agitation will be done to raise voice against the proposed Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and other issues.
This 'Rail Roko' agitation will be held from 1 pm to 3 pm on December 5, in which farmers are planned to sit on the railway tracks. Pandher says that this is a symbolic and peaceful protest so that the attention of the central and state governments can be drawn to the pending demands of the farmers. If their demands are not accepted, a warning has also been given to take the agitation further.
According to farmers and Morcha leaders, the proposed draft of the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 is detrimental to the rural and farmers. According to them, the bill is preparing to bring provisions like privatization of electricity, price increase for rural electricity consumers and prepaid meters and smart meters. They are also against the alleged attempt to forcefully sell public properties, government lands etc. Farmers are demanding the re-installation of old electricity meters, return of prepaid and smart meters and cancellation of the plans for privatization of electricity distribution and bill increase. Apart from this, they also have concerns about agriculture, farmer empowerment and security of public and government facilities.
