Chandigarh, September 11:- A new turn has emerged today in the suicide case of labourer Gulzar Singh from Toor Banjara village in Sangrur district, as the deceased labourer’s family has rejected the government’s claims. In a video released today, the deceased Gulzar Singh’s three sons and his wife can be seen, and the family has now alleged that the administration put pressure on them to conduct the cremation. It may be recalled that labourer Gulzar Singh was cremated under heavy police security, and a controversy had also erupted during the cremation.
In the video, the family of deceased Gulzar Singh claimed that the administration put immense pressure on them, due to which they were forced to conduct the cremation. Today, the family announced that until they receive justice, neither will the ashes of the deceased family member be collected nor will the Bhog ceremony be held. The family also alleged that the administration misled them and forcibly carried out the cremation.
The family demanded justice and sought support from the people of Punjab. It is pertinent to mention that on the day of the cremation, the deceased’s son had expressed satisfaction with the police investigation and had said that there was no pressure of any kind. At that time, the son had also claimed that an agreement had been reached to provide a job to one member of the family.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, during an event of Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, labourer Gulzar Singh had stated that drugs were being sold in the village, following which the panchayat pressured the labourer to publicly apologise. Meanwhile, Gulzar Singh consumed a poisonous substance and eventually lost his battle for life.
Sangrur Police have registered a case against the village sarpanch and others held responsible for the suicide and have also arrested them. The Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes is also reaching Toor Banjara village today.
However, on the other hand, a video is going viral on social media claiming that the family received a cheque for financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the administration. However, no statement from the family regarding this has come forward so far.
