Sangrur, September 06:- Under the directions of the Election Commission of India, Electoral Roll Observer Varinder Kumar Sharma, IAS, Secretary-cum-Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Punjab, appointed by the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab to inspect the ongoing voter list revision process under SIR-2026 in Sangrur district, conducted a comprehensive review of the entire process during his first district visit.
On this occasion, he held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Poonamdeep Kaur, Electoral Registration Officers of all five assembly constituencies of the district—99-Lehra, 100-Dirba, 101-Sunam, 107-Dhuri, and 108-Sangrur—and representatives of various political parties.
Welcoming the Roll Observer, Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur briefed him about the actions taken so far in the district under SIR-2026. She stated that the entire process is being executed transparently and efficiently in accordance with the timelines and guidelines prescribed by the Election Commission.
Varinder Kumar Sharma reviewed the progress of the notice phase, received claims and objections, their disposal, and the verification of voter lists, emphasizing that the core objective of SIR is to prepare accurate, clean, and error-free electoral rolls. He instructed officials to ensure that every eligible voter's name is enrolled and no ineligible person's name is included.
He informed that Forms 6, 6A, 7, and 8 have been received since August 13. Citizens eligible to register as new voters based on the qualifying date of October 1, 2026, can submit Form-6 along with required documents until September 12. Form-6A for NRI voters, Form-7 for deletion of names, and Form-8 for correction or change of address in the voter list can also be submitted. These services can also be accessed via voters.eci.gov.in and the ECINET mobile app.
He mentioned that claims and objections will be disposed of by October 8, 2026, while the final electoral roll will be published on October 12, 2026. For information regarding voter services or SIR, citizens can contact the helpdesk as well as the Voter Helpline Number 1950.
Subsequently, the Roll Observer visited several polling booths during special camps organized across the five assembly constituencies, directly interacting with BLOs and voters to gain firsthand feedback on any difficulties faced during SIR-2026. Additional Deputy Commissioner Ankur Mahendru, Election Tehsildar Paramjit Kaur, along with respective Electoral Registration Officers-cum-Sub Divisional Magistrates and representatives of political parties, were present at the meeting.
