Kapurthala: The District Language Office, Kapurthala, in collaboration with Kitab Manch Kapurthala (Regd.), organized an impressive Kavi Darbar (Poetry Symposium) at the District Language Office, Kapurthala, on June 16, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM, dedicated to the martyrdom of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Eminent poets, litterateurs, and literature enthusiasts of the region participated with great enthusiasm.
The event commenced with the departmental anthem, "Dhanu Likhari Nanka." Following this, Dr. Harbhajan Singh, founder of Kitab Manch Kapurthala, warmly welcomed the guests, poets, intellectuals, and audience members. He stated that such literary events not only connect the younger generation with our glorious heritage but also promote human values in society.
The symposium formally began with speakers and poets paying floral tributes to Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. During the Kavi Darbar, renowned poets presented their soulful and heroic poems, beautifully portraying the Guru's unparalleled martyrdom, his life, teachings, and his acceptance of the divine will ("Tera Kiya Meetha Laagai"). The moving recitations created an atmosphere of deep reverence and spiritual connection with the Guru's feet.
Chief speaker Dr. Paramjit Singh Mansa stated that the Guru strengthened the ideology of religious freedom, human rights, and the welfare of all through his life. He emphasized that the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji is unique in world history, giving courage to the oppressed to stand against tyranny for the sake of truth and righteousness. He urged the youth to follow the path shown by the Guru.
Special guest Dr. Anurag Sharma remarked that such events play a vital role in connecting the new generation with their history and culture. He added that Guru Arjan Dev Ji's life inspires us to remain steadfast on the path of truth and justice under all circumstances.
At the end of the event, District Language Officer, Kapurthala, Smt. Jaspreet Kaur, expressed her gratitude to the guests, speakers, and poets. She remarked that Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom is a symbol of self-strength, patience, and sacrifice for all of humanity. She also specially thanked Dr. Harbhajan Singh for the ongoing efforts of Kitab Manch Kapurthala in promoting reading culture and literary awareness.
The event concluded with the honoring of speakers with 'Siropas' and books, and poets with mementos. Mrs. Sandeep Kaur (Lecturer, Punjabi) served as the stage moderator. Notable personalities including Prof. Kulwant Singh Aujla, Dr. Sardul Singh Aujla, and others participated as poets. A book exhibition organized by Sh. Manish Kumar, Clerk at the District Language Office, showcasing works on Punjabi language, literature, history, and Sikh heritage, remained a special attraction and was highly appreciated by the attendees.
