Madhuban, July 17: In a solemn ceremony held at the Police Martyrs' Memorial at the Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban, Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shri Ajay Singhal paid a heartfelt tribute to the 82 immortal martyrs of the Haryana Police—who made the supreme sacrifice while performing their duties—by laying a wreath. On this occasion, senior police officers, trainee officers, and personnel observed a two-minute silence to honor the indomitable courage, dedication to duty, and patriotism of the immortal martyrs.
‘Martyrs are not just names; they are our inspiration and pride’
In his address, DGP Shri Ajay Singhal stated that our martyred police personnel sacrificed their all to protect the motherland while discharging their duties. He remarked that the 82 immortal martyrs of the Haryana Police are a source of pride not only for their families but for the entire nation. Their supreme sacrifice will continue to inspire future generations and every police officer to perform their duties with honesty, integrity, and courage.
He affirmed that the Haryana Police holds a deep sense of respect and responsibility towards every martyr and their family, and remains steadfastly committed to their honor, safety, and welfare. He noted that these martyrs symbolize the fact that the Haryana Police always stands at the forefront to face challenges. "They are not merely martyrs, but valiant warriors who laid down their lives for the security of the country."
‘Criminals must either give up crime or leave Haryana’
The DGP stated that upon assuming charge, he had delivered a clear message to criminals—in accordance with the directives of Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini—that they must either abandon crime or leave Haryana. He asserted that anyone attempting to create an atmosphere of fear and terror in society would be dealt with as sternly as terrorists. The Haryana Police is working with utmost integrity, courage, and dedication to uphold the rule of law; as a result, a clear fear of the law is evident among criminals.
He specifically urged the youth not to be swayed by crime, drugs, or the influence of anti-social elements operating from abroad. He remarked that the world of cinema and social media differs vastly from reality. In real life, the long arm of the law eventually catches up, and every criminal must ultimately face justice.
**Special Focus on the Welfare of Police Personnel and Their Families**
The DGP stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, top priority is being accorded to the welfare, morale, and provision of modern amenities for police personnel. Schemes are continuously being formulated at the Police Headquarters level to make the lives of police personnel and their families safer and more comfortable.
He mentioned that various benefits, including allowances for uniforms, travel, and mobile usage, have been implemented for police personnel. The transfer policy has been improved, and regular monitoring is being conducted to ensure timely promotions. Initiatives such as health check-up drives, the establishment of gyms in every district, and a significant enhancement in accident and life insurance coverage—facilitated by HDFC Bank—represent crucial steps toward police welfare.
***Numerous New Initiatives for Education and Social Security***
The DGP informed that 22 DAV Police Public Schools are operating across the state for the education of children from police families, with approximately 23,600 students currently enrolled. A 50 percent fee concession is provided to the children of police personnel, while children of martyred police personnel receive free education.
He noted that initiatives such as e-libraries, smart classrooms, skill development programs, the ‘Shagun Yojana’, and the soon-to-be-launched ‘Hostel Gift Scheme’ within police lines are significant efforts aimed at empowering the future of police families. So far, financial assistance amounting to approximately ?1.5 crore has been provided to 66 daughters of police families under the ‘Shagun Yojana’.
Investment of ?1,330 Crore for Modern Policing
The DGP stated that approximately ?1,330 crore will be invested in developing Haryana Police's infrastructure over the next two years. Under this ambitious plan, modern police buildings, improved residential facilities, advanced training centers, state-of-the-art technology, and the necessary resources to provide fast and effective police services to citizens will be developed. He mentioned that approval for ?120 crore has also been received from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for this purpose.
Several senior officers and personnel from the Police Department were present on the occasion.
