Nawanshahr: Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Aulakh reviewed the progress of the Drug and Socio-Economic Census being conducted by the Punjab government by holding a meeting with various officials. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Avneet Kaur and officials from various departments were present on this occasion.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that this census is being conducted to improve welfare planning. He mentioned that enumerators will visit every household to collect data. Appealing for cooperation from district residents, he assured that the information provided would be kept strictly confidential and secure, and the collected data would be used solely for policy planning and welfare activities. He clarified that no information would be used for any punitive action.
The Deputy Commissioner further explained that the objective of this census is to assess the extent and impact of drug abuse, understand the social and economic conditions of families, evaluate the reach and impact of government schemes, and ensure better welfare planning. He noted that the census will prove helpful in providing better healthcare and de-addiction services, creating better employment and livelihood opportunities, strengthening education and social welfare systems, and identifying gaps in existing schemes. He instructed the concerned officials to perform their duties with honesty and dedication.
Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Aulakh stated that 370 enumerators have been deployed to complete the Drug and Socio-Economic Census in the district. He said that this census will help identify families in need of support and rehabilitation, and ensure that government schemes reach the right beneficiaries. He urged the residents to provide accurate information and cooperate fully in completing the census to build a strong and drug-free Punjab. He emphasized that active participation of the people will play a crucial role in framing better welfare schemes and shaping the future.
Following this, Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Aulakh also held a meeting to review the progress of the 'Rangla Punjab' and 'Maavan-Dheean Satkar' schemes.
