Sangrur, June 7- The Cycling Association of Punjab (CAP) organised a cycle rally and the ASMITA Khelo India Women Cycling League to commemorate World Bicycle Day. The event was held at Valmiki Chowk, opposite Green Restaurant and behind the District Library on Ranbir College Road, Sangrur.
During the ASMITA Khelo India Women Cycling League competitions, Sabrin Kaur secured first place in the Elite Category, followed by Mahikdeep Kaur in second place and Yogima in third. In the Junior Girls Category, Balpreet Kaur finished first, while Samiksha and Kirandeep Kaur secured second and third places respectively. In the Sub-Junior Category, Sukhmani Kaur claimed the top position, followed by Ramandeep Kaur and Khushmeen Kaur in second and third places respectively.
A cycle rally was also organised on the occasion to mark World Bicycle Day, spreading the message that cycling should become an integral part of everyday life.
Providing information about the event, Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, General Secretary of the Cycling Association of Punjab, said that the objective of the programme was to promote cycling as a healthy, environment-friendly and sustainable mode of transport, while also encouraging greater participation of women in sports.
Mr. Kahlon stated that the ASMITA Khelo India Women Cycling League was organised under the Khelo India initiative with the aim of providing women cyclists with a competitive platform and raising awareness about fitness, environmental conservation and road safety through cycling.
He further informed that all participants were provided with refreshments and T-shirts, while the women cyclists who competed in the league were awarded medals and certificates.
He also expressed special gratitude to Pankaj Singh, President of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Onkar Singh, Chairman of CFI, and Maninderpal Singh, Secretary General of CFI, Charanjeet Singh President of CAP, for bringing this significant event to Punjab.
Kahlon emphasised that cycling not only improves physical fitness but also plays a vital role in reducing pollution and contributing to a healthier society.
Among those present were CAP Vice-President S.P. Singh, Joint Secretary Sukhjinder Singh, Executive Member Kuldeep Singh, District Cycling Association office-bearers Kamalpreet Singh, Gurwinder Singh and N.P. Singh, District Sports Officer Navdeep Singh, PCP (CFI) Manish Sawhney, Manoj Dua, Lalvinder Singh, Sukhvir Singh, Vishal (Kickboxing Coach, Sunam), Parvinder Singh, Lalwinder Singh along with a large number of coaches, cyclists and spectators.
