Sangrur, 12 September:- During the National Lok Adalat held today at the district courts in Sangrur, as well as at Sunam, Moonak and Dhuri, 29,189 out of a total of 29,916 cases listed for disposal were settled through mutual consent between the two parties. During the proceedings, awards amounting to Rs 22,18,31,676 were passed.
The National Lok Adalat was held in accordance with the directions and guidelines of Hon’ble Justice Deepak Sibal, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court-cum-Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, S.A.S. Nagar, and Hon’ble Justice Pankaj Jain, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court-cum-Administrative Judge, Sessions Division Sangrur.
The Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, S. Munish Singal, and under the supervision of Secretary S. Ashish Thathai. For disposal of the cases, 13 Lok Adalat benches were constituted at the district level and five at the sub-divisional level.
In the National Lok Adalat, besides cases pending in courts, pre-litigation matters were also considered. These included compoundable criminal cases, cheque bounce cases, recovery of money, motor accident claims, matrimonial disputes, electricity and water bills, service matters related to salaries and allowances, revenue matters and other civil cases.
