Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, July 15, 2026:- As per the directions of Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar, a meeting was held by Regional Transport Officer Mr. Harpreet Singh Atwal regarding road safety with the aim of reducing road accidents in the district and making traffic arrangements safer and smoother.
During the meeting, Mr. Harpreet Singh Atwal reviewed in detail various issues related to black spots, accident prone areas, high risk corridors, critical junctions and traffic arrangements of the district and asked the concerned departments to identify the causes of accidents and take necessary corrective and safety measures in a time-bound manner.
The meeting discussed the security arrangements at the accident prone areas in Sector-5 and 6, Eco City of New Chandigarh, traffic issues of New Chandigarh and the action to be taken to prevent traffic jams and road accidents on the road connecting Sector 87 and 88.
Similarly, the demand made by the Bar Association for construction of zebra crossing, bus shelter and speed breaker outside the Court Complex, SAS Nagar was also discussed. The concerned departments were asked to take coordinated action to remove illegal encroachments from State and National Highways and solve the problem related to stray animals on the roads.
During the meeting, in view of the orders of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, the action being taken to install AI based CCTV system at black spots, high risk corridors, high density corridors and critical junctions was also reviewed.
Apart from this, the progress and effective monitoring of Hit and Run and Cashless Treatment Scheme, Ferishte Scheme, Rah-Veer/Good Samaritan Scheme, Sadak Suraksha Mitra Programme and e-DAR Project were also discussed. Atwal asked the concerned departments to resolve the issues related to road safety on priority basis and ensure concrete and time-bound action through mutual coordination.
