Karnal, July 1:- The CIA-1 team of the Karnal District Police, led by Head Constable Manoj Kumar, has successfully arrested an accused involved in a case of fraud and theft against an elderly woman. The accused allegedly swindled cash from her and stole an air conditioner (AC) from her home. Following his arrest, he was produced in court and remanded to police custody for one day.
The arrested individual has been identified as Anil Sharma, son of Ravindra Kumar, a resident of village Kheri Shahidan (Chammu Kalan) in Kurukshetra district.
The investigating officer stated that the complainant, Mohit Virmani—a resident of Sector-7, Karnal—had lodged a complaint at the Sector 32-33 Police Station. He reported that the accused had moved into their home as a tenant on May 18, 2026. The accused allegedly deceived the complainant's elderly mother, first obtaining ?70,000 in cash. Later, under the pretext of returning the money, he acquired her cheques and withdrew an additional ?48,000.
Subsequently, the accused absconded without notice. Upon inspecting the room, the family discovered that an AC and other items were missing from the house.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Sector 32-33 Police Station, Karnal, and an investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, the CIA-1 team arrested Anil Sharma based on technical analysis and confidential information. He was produced in court and remanded to police custody for one day to facilitate interrogation and the recovery of the stolen property.
The investigating officer added that further investigation is underway. During the police remand, the accused will be subjected to intensive questioning regarding the recovery of the fraudulently obtained money and stolen items, as well as other details concerning the commission of the crime.
