Lehragaga/Sangrur, September 8:- In compliance with the directions issued by the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development, Punjab, and under the leadership of District Programme Officer, Sangrur, Pradeep Singh Gill, the Anti-Begging Task Team conducted a special drive in Lehragaga to prevent child begging. During an inspection of public places, markets and crowded areas of the city by a joint team of various departments, one child was rescued. The rescued child was handed over to the concerned authorities for further necessary action as per the rules.
District Programme Officer Pradeep Singh Gill said that keeping children away from begging and connecting them with a safe environment is the collective responsibility of society. Such actions for preventing child begging will continue regularly in coordination among the concerned departments. He appealed to the general public that if any child is seen begging, in difficult circumstances, or in need of any kind of protection and assistance, it should not be ignored and information should immediately be provided on the Child Helpline number 1098. He said that timely information can help provide protection and assistance to a needy child.
He further informed that on receiving information through the Child Helpline, action is taken in coordination with the concerned departments to provide the child with the required protection and assistance. During this operation, Satish Kumar from the Education Department, Harwinder Singh and Santosh from the Police Department, Dr. Neeraj from the Health Department, Rupinder Singh from the District Child Protection Office, Sangrur, and Veerpal Kaur from the Child Helpline were present.
