Chandigarh, September 3:- The Chief Election Commissioner of India, Shri Gyanesh Kumar, has described the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) as the backbone of the world’s largest democracy. He said that the preparation of the electoral roll and the conduct of elections in India are done as per the Constitution of India, the laws and the guidelines issued by the ECI.
He said that the BLOs are the first point of contact between the Election Commission of India and the citizens. He stressed that the BLOs have played and are still playing a crucial role in the preparation of the electoral roll.
Lauding the BLOs for maintaining the integrity of the electoral roll, the Chief Election Commissioner said that the electoral rolls, as well as the entire election process, are audited jointly by the Booth Level Representatives (BLAs) appointed by the recognized political parties and the polling and counting representatives of the candidates.
