Guwahati, September 8:- A young man killed his wife in Guwahati, Assam. The accused husband chopped off his wife’s head, kept it in a refrigerator, and also cut off the fingers of both her hands.
The incident came to light on Sunday when he was preparing to feed the body to dogs; neighbours informed the police after noticing a strong, foul smell. When the police broke open the lock of the flat and entered, they found the torso of 25-year-old Riya Talukdar.
The accused, Ramanujan Goswami, had fled after the murder but was arrested on Monday morning.
A preliminary police investigation has revealed that after the murder, Ramanujan cooked and ate food in the same room. He had planned to cut Riya’s body into pieces and feed the meat to dogs, but fled the house after finishing his meal.
Riya and Ramanujan had been married only six months earlier. After their marriage, the couple had been living in a rented house in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati. Riya worked at a boutique in the AC Market area of Fancy Bazaar and had only one brother in her family. Ramanujan worked as a cab driver. Ramanujan’s ancestral home is in Gauripur in Dhubri district, where his parents live. It is reported that a case related to ATM theft has been registered against the accused at Dhubri Police Station. Police are currently questioning Ramanujan; two mobile phones have been recovered from his possession and are being examined.
