Hoshiarpur:- With the aim of effectively dealing with the possible flood situation and ensuring better coordination between the district administration and the army, an important meeting was held today under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain with all the SDMs and Revenue officers of the district. Lieutenant Colonel S.K. Kulkarni and Major Ritesh from the Western Command were specially present in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that all the departments will have to ensure full preparation in advance to deal with the challenge of possible floods during the monsoon season. She said that the district administration is paying special attention to the availability of necessary equipment and human resources for relief and rescue operations and the cooperation of the army in this direction will be very important.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all the SDMs to ensure availability of life jackets, sand bags, boats and experienced boatmen in their respective areas. He said that in the areas where the risk of floods is high, detailed mapping should be done keeping in mind the needs of the areas and necessary arrangements should be made in advance by identifying the potential danger spots.
He directed the officers to appoint different in-charges for arranging the required manpower and resources for relief and rescue operations at the sub-division level, so that immediate and effective action can be ensured in any emergency situation.
Meanwhile, Lt. Col. S.K. Kulkarni and Major Ritesh said that all the necessary preparations have been completed by the Army to deal with the possible flood situation and teams have been prepared according to all the sub-divisions of the district. He assured that if required, Army teams will immediately reach various sub-divisions of the district and support the district administration in relief and rescue operations.
The Army officials also informed that training on boating will be provided by the Army in collaboration with NDRF. For this, the SDMs of the respective sub-divisions should prepare a list of trained personnel from their respective areas and provide it to the Army, so that boating training can be provided in a timely manner.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nikas Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Nidhi Kumud Bambah, Assistant Commissioner (Under Training) Gurkanwal Singh, SDM Hoshiarpur Parampreet Singh, SDM Dasuha Kanwaljit Singh, SDM Mukerian Jyotsna, SDM Tanda Lovepreet Singh, DRO Amandeep Chawla and other officers were also present in the meeting.
