Garhshankar: Following the state-level call by the All India Kisan Sabha and the All India Agricultural Workers Union, a massive protest demonstration was held today at the SDM office in Garhshankar as part of the division-level protests scheduled from July 6 to July 10, 2026. Addressing the gathering, State Secretary Comrade Gurnek Singh Bhajjal demanded that the central government cancel the Free Trade Agreement with the USA, reduce prices of diesel, petrol, and domestic gas, and waive off the loans of farmers and laborers.
State Vice President Darshan Singh Mattu and District President Comrade Achhar Singh urged the Punjab government to stop the 'Land Pooling' policy and demanded that agricultural laborers be provided with 10-marla plots and 5 lakh rupees for house construction. They also called for ensuring that canal water reaches every field and potable drinking water reaches every home. Other demands included compensation of 30,000 rupees per acre for damages at the border and for crop losses caused by floods last year, as well as a reduction in the prices of fertilizers like Urea, DAP, NPK, and Potash and an end to their black marketing.
The leaders further demanded strict action against illegal mining, overloaded trucks, and vehicles without registration numbers. They urged the government to withdraw the Seed Bill proposal, cancel the Electricity Act 2025, and stop the installation of smart meters. Additionally, they demanded the recovery of public money swindled by Sahara and Pearl companies. Two memoranda addressing these demands, directed to the Governor of Punjab and the Chief Minister of Punjab, were submitted to SDM Sanjeev Kumar Dod, Garhshankar.
 The event was attended by leaders including Mohinder Kumar Badoan, Harbhajan Singh Atwal, Neelam Badoan, Prem Singh, Ravinder Kumar Neeta, Mohan Lal, Kulwinder Sangha, Satnam Singh Dhillon, Joginder Singh Thadi, Karnail Singh, Balbir Singh, Minder Singh Khairar, Tarsem Lal, and Sarabjit Singh. Gurbakhsh Kaur thanked all the participants at the end of the protest.
