New Delhi:- US President Donald Trump is facing severe criticism in his own country after his decision to impose 50% tariff on India. In protest against this decision, a resolution has been introduced in the US Parliament, demanding the removal of the 50% tariff imposed on India.
Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamurthy, Congressman Deborah Ross and Congressman Mark VC jointly introduced this resolution in the lower house. This resolution demands the end of the national emergency declared by President Donald Trump, under which the 50% tariff was imposed on India. The lawmakers described the move as illegal and harmful to the US economy.
A similar resolution was also introduced in the US Parliament after the 50% tariff imposed on Brazil. Trump declared a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, increasing the current 25% tariff on India to 50%. The decision took effect on August 27. According to Raja Krishnamurthy, President Trump's tariff policy towards India is irresponsible and damages the important strategic partnership between the two countries.
He said that instead of promoting American interests, this decision is disrupting supply chains. It is directly harming American workers and forcing consumers to buy goods at higher prices. He argues that if these tariffs are eliminated, the US can move forward with negotiations on key economic and security issues with India.
