Hoshiarpur, October 3 (Daljit Ajnoha):- The 119th birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh was jointly celebrated by the Sports Club, Non-Resident Indians, local residents and students of Government Middle School Langeri, District Hoshiarpur. The programme was held by garlanding his portrait amid slogans in his memory.
General Secretary of the Late Manjit Singh Lalli Memorial Committee, Gurbhajan Singh Sangha, Belgium, and President Dr. O. P. Singh warmly welcomed all those present on the occasion. Addressing the villagers and school students, State Awardee teacher Shri Avtar Langeri said that the real freedom envisioned in the dreams and ideology of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh has still not been achieved. Quoting him, he said, “As long as the exploitation of human beings by human beings does not end in society, the struggle will continue.”
He said that merely wearing Bhagat Singh-style turbans on one’s head and putting up pictures of Bhagat Singh in offices cannot make anyone a true heir to his legacy. Therefore, the need of the hour is for all sections of society, democratic organizations and so-called revolutionaries to recognize the issues, forget their differences and come together on one platform to raise their voice collectively for rights, truth and justice.
A true tribute to Bhagat Singh would be to put his ideals into practice and work towards establishing a society based on equality and justice.
Those who attended the programme included Madam Rajinder Kaur, Pushpa Devi, Sukhwinder Kaur, Hardev Kaur, Harbans Kaur, Postmaster Madam Ritu Bala, Dr. O. P. Singh, Gurmel Singh Sangha, Brahmjot Singh, UK, Inspector Amritpal Singh Sangha, Jaswinder Singh Sangha, Rajinder Kumar Dhani, Jagjit Singh Sangha, Secretary Resham Singh, Harbhajan Singh Sangha, Mr. Yograj, Babbu Langeri and others.
