11th UK Gatka Championship to be held in Swansea on September 14: Dhesi

Chandigarh, September 10, 2025:- The Gatka Federation UK, in collaboration with the World Gatka Federation, is organizing the 11th UK Gatka Championship at the Bay Sports Park in Swansea, Wales on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in which Gatka teams from across the UK will participate in these competitions.

Talking about the importance of this tournament, World Gatka Federation President Harjit Singh Grewal, State Awardee, said that this annual competition of heritage art is also an effort to promote and preserve a healthy lifestyle among the youth, Sikh culture and Jangju art. Gatka promoter Grewal, who is also the national president of the National Gatka Association of India, said that he is very happy about the growing enthusiasm for Gatka in other countries of the world, including Britain, and the growing interest in playing Gatka among the youth.
Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi, MP from Slough and President of Gatka Federation UK, who has been successfully organizing this championship for the last 12 years, said that such competitions of the heritage game encourage the youth to connect with the proud history of Sikh religion and culture, and to adopt a healthy and disciplined lifestyle. Every year, people participate in these competitions in large numbers.
He said that in this championship, along with competitions in different age groups in Gatka Soti and Fari-Soti, Gatka players will also demonstrate martial techniques. The local Swansea Gurdwara Sahib has the full support of the managing committee and the sangat for this event. Appealing to the public to join the event, Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi said that this sports event is open to all and families should participate in this event with enthusiasm. 
There is a complete arrangement of langar and refreshments. It is worth mentioning that Gatka Bhava (the art of fighting with a stick) is an integral part of the ancient Sikh martial art, which teaches warrior duties, self-defense, self-control, constant ticking, coordination of footwork, fitness, self-confidence and spirituality.
