SAS Nagar, October 2:- Punjab State Traders’ Commission Member Vineet Verma has raised concerns before Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal and the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Mohali regarding the multiple challenges being faced by traders and market associations of District SAS Nagar (Mohali), particularly during the ongoing festival season.
Vineet Verma stated that the he has received several grievances from Beopar Mandals and Market Associations highlighting that temporary vendors are being allowed to set up stalls directly in front of established showrooms, booths, and shops in the market areas by occupying walking and parking spaces.
This practice, he said, is causing serious traffic congestion, shortage of parking for visitors, and heavy financial losses to legitimate traders, as a majority of their annual business revenue is earned during the festive period.
He further pointed out that the garbage RMC dump near some markets (including Phase 2, Mohali) is not being cleaned on a daily basis, creating foul smell and unhygienic conditions that discourage customers from visiting the markets. He urged the authorities to ensure daily garbage clearance or shift the dump away from commercial areas.
Raising another concern, Verma said that sub-standard goods under reputed brand names are being sold at temporary stalls at very low prices, which not only causes copyright issues and unfair competition but also impacts the investments of showroom owners who are official franchisees of the brands.
The Traders’ Commission Member also stressed the urgent need for civic improvements in the markets, including repair and recarpeting of damaged pavements and roads, fresh road marking in parking areas, installation of fancy lighting, and provision of benches for shoppers’ convenience.
Verma urged the district administration and MC Mohali to take strict measures to stop allotting vendor stalls in parking areas. Instead, he suggested that a designated vending zone with proper parking be created for temporary vendors.
Only roadside poor vendors such as Diya sellers should be allowed during the festive season in the market areas. He also emphasized that if any shopkeeper seeks permission for a temporary stall, it should be issued only opposite his own shop with NOC from neighboring traders to avoid disputes.
Vineet Verma reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sh. Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab State Trader’s Commission is fully committed to ensuring a healthy, fair, and growth-oriented business environment for traders and industrialists across Punjab.
