Chandigarh, September 2 - Haryana has set an example for other states in giving prompt and effective results to the new criminal justice system. Recent cases show how the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure 2023 is strengthening public confidence in speedy trial, better policing and law enforcement.
Dr. Sumita Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, said that the Union Home Ministry has identified Haryana for the implementation of the new criminal laws, in which two remarkable success stories of the state have been selected in the top five to be disseminated across the country.
She detailed a case from Nuh district where the problem of a potentially accident-prone truck parking on the Delhi-Mumbai National Highway was resolved immediately under the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure 2023. Let us tell you that Raj Lallan Singh had parked his truck carelessly, which had caused disruption in transport and was putting people at risk of life and property. Nagina police station sub-inspector Pratap Singh immediately proceeded with the case from the registration of the FIR till the charge was proved without any hindrance. The court imposed a fine of Rs 5000.
Similarly, in a case in Rewari, the Model Town police used modern investigative techniques to solve an incident of snatching a bag. The accused Hemant and Jitendra had stolen cash, a mobile phone and valuables. The police quickly identified them and arrested them using CCTV footage and eyewitness statements, along with recovering the stolen goods.
The victim's active identification during the identification parade further strengthened the case. Within 41 days, the chargesheet was filed and Hemantar confessed to his crime, resulting in his conviction under the provisions of BNS 2023.
He said these success stories highlight how the police, prosecution and courts in Haryana have fully embraced the transformative potential of India’s new criminal laws. Instant FIR registration, evidence-based investigation, technology-based policing and judicial processes are redefining the process of delivering justice.
From transport to road crimes, Haryana is setting a new benchmark for swift, impartial and lasting justice, an inspiring example for the entire country.
